What is science? (Khoa học là gì?)

The word science comes from a Latin word meaning "Knowledge."  Science is knowledge that results from our observations of the world around us. This knowledge must be tested again and again with experiments until it is proved to be true. This sets science apart from other kinds of knowledge, for example, arts such as music, painting, and literature. There is no test that scientifically proves that one kink of painting is "more beautiful" or "more true" than another. No experiment can show whether a symphony is "right" or "wrong". Science is also different from some other types of knowledge because in order to make progress, new scientific ideas often replace old ideas. For example, greats works of art produced today do not take the palace of masterpieces of  the past. On the other hand, as new scientific discoveries are made, even many recent theories will be replaced by new ones. People once though that the Earth was flat, but through experimenting and observing, they proved that is was round.
